September 2nd 2015 the sounds of sirens filled the city of The Hague. Tracking the source of those sounds I found myself at the Spuiplein, the heart of the city, where ambulance workers were gathered to demonstrate for their working conditions. The Spuiplein condenses the social, political, and cultural life of the administrative capital of The Netherlands. It is the home of the City Hall, among other public and cultural institutions. A year after those sirens filled the air, the Spuiplein is being redesigned to host new cultural and educational functions in an urban makeover that will transform the context where this piece of sound was recorded. Spuiplein.wav is a reminiscence of this moment prior to transformation.
